Dear Colleague,

My report on the Psychology and the Other Conference is to your left. TO VIEW PHOTOS, PLEASE SCROLL DOWN.
A highlight of this year’s PATOC conference was the special book signings organized by Library of Social Science. We ordered and sold multiple copies of several Oxford University Press titles. The book signings were exciting—and very well received (see photos below).

LSS will soon roll out our 2016 Annual Subscription Plan (ASP), which will include the option of participating as a Premium Client. For Premium Clients, LSS will sell multiple copies of selected titles—and organize book signings for authors speaking at the meeting.

3rd Biennial Psychology and the Other Conference (PATOC)
October 9-11, 2015, Cambridge, MA

Psychology and the Other is an international, interdisciplinary consortium. Its members—psychologists, psychiatrists and analysts, social workers, sociologists and anthropologists, philosophers, theologians and clergy—all engage in rich discourses about the “Other” among their various intellectual traditions.
Library of Social Science was pleased to create and manage the book exhibit for the Psychology and the Other Conference, held on the campus of Lesley University in Cambridge, MA.

Organizers David Goodman and Brian Becker, along with their superb volunteers, once again put on a fantastic conference. Washburn Lounge, a large, airy space at the heart of the conference, was home not just to the book exhibit but to coffee and (just outside) registration. This ensured the 500 attendees visited the book exhibit multiple times throughout the conference.

Our exhibit consisted of 14 tables, showcasing 356 titles from 41 publishers. Journals and catalogues had their own table, as did textbooks for course adoption request.

Publishers whose titles proved popular included Academic Studies Press, Bloomsbury, Columbia, Fordham, Indiana, Jewish Lights Press, Marquette, Michigan State, Polity, Random House, Sounds True, SUNY and Verso.

A highlight of this year’s book exhibit was the special book signings we organized for Oxford University Press. Two Oxford authors, Kenneth Gergen and Mark Freeman, were Invited Speakers, and David Goodman recently published the proceedings of the first PATOC with the Press.

We ordered and sold multiple copies of Gergen’s Relational Being; Freeman’s Hindsight and The Priority of the Other; and Freeman and Goodman’s The Psychology of the Other—and provided space at the center of the book exhibit for them to sign.

Gergen joined us following his presentation on Friday evening, with Freeman and Gergen signing together on Saturday—just as the wine began to flow at the grand reception. Please see the photos below.

All three authors were thrilled with the opportunity to sign their books and to talk with attendees in a relaxed atmosphere.

We were also joined by Taylor & Francis’ Kate Hawes, who flew in from London for the conference. Kate was clearly impressed with the energy and liveliness of the conference, and was able to meet with several of her authors—as well as show off some of Routledge’s recent titles.

Library of Social Science would like to thank David, Brian and their staff for the support they provided in helping us put together the book exhibit.

And we would like to express our gratitude to the publishers who participated in the 2015 Psychology and the Other Conference. Without your books, there would be no exhibit.

Best regards,
Hugh Galford
