The best hypothesis to understand what occurred in Germany, 1933-1945: Nazis enacted the fantasies of Adolf Hitler.

When people asked Himmler about the Final Solution, he demurred: “It is the will of the Fuehrer.”

Nazis embraced Hitler’s will, and enacted his fantasies.

One doesn’t need convoluted explanations like “obedience to authority,” or rationalizations like “the banality of evil.”

What occurred during the Nazi period occurred because many Germans loved Hitler—and what he stood for.

What did Hitler stand for? Absolute devotion to Germany. Mass murder grew out of love of country.
